How real are these Reality Shows?

Published by sincerewriter at 5:02 am under Current events Edit This

I’m sure most people have at some time watched these “reality shows” on their television screens. They are very popular and they attract a wide audience who are given free the experience of a big thrill when these women in the hot seats are forced to reveal the innermost secrets of their personal lives. How many of you have watched such shows?

I too had the chance to watch one such show last night. There is great excitement as each answer is okayed by the polygraph test in return for big prize money. Yesterday on the show, a young woman in her late twenties was ripped to pieces with some of the most leading questions anyone can be dared to be asked. It looked like she was being forced to testify in a courtroom trial. There  was the tense excitement everywhere in the studio room. Here was this buxom female, tall and handsome with a face as beautiful as it can be,  seated on this high hot seat. As the questions were fired at her one after another she kept drawing her beautiful button-like nose inside like a person who has had a long history of a sinus problem. Questions like ” Have you had sex with another man other than your husband after your marriage?” brought her to tears not to talk about the embarassment to her family of dad, mom, sister and brother who were also seated separately in the front row of the audience. Her husband ( he seemed younger than her, a kid!)  was visibly shaken when she replied ” Yes, I do have slept with another man after I got married.” Before she answered this one she had won 100,000 $ for answering all the questions truthfully before. If she lied she would lost all of it. There was wild clapping from everyone there  and I’m from those watching at home.

The point I’m trying to make is this - are these shows real? Did the incidents covered in the question/answer session really happen in the life of this woman? Because, believe me , she got it  wrong in the next question ” Do you consider yourself a good person now?” She answered “yes” only to be rejected by the polygraph. Why should a contestant lose all the prize money when she did not answer right the final question? That too because of a misunderstanding on the wording of the question? It seemed to me the whole thing was cooked up just for the audience. Questions like ” When was the last time you had sex with your husband?” can increase ratings for the show and bring back more viewers asking for more. Maybe they paid a paltry 5000 or 10000 $ to every contestant without anyone knowing after the show was over.

Anyone care for  a reality check?
